Not if there is unrepentant sin in your life! Unrepentant sin dulls the heart. Hidden sin, the ones that no one sees, will slowly but surely harden the heart and thereby dull the hearing and blind the eyes.

Why do we think it doesn’t matter? Why would we think a holy God will overlook those sins we hang on to in private? He loves you too much to do that!

Do you secretly mistreat your family? Those put in your care?

Do you mistreat your body? The holy living temple of God?

Do you spend your minutes seeking wealth over righteousness?

Do you trust in your own abilities?

Do you hide selfishness, greed, covetousness?

Do you act out of fear, instead of faith?

Do you turn to man in emergency or God?

Those sins will harden the heart, blind our eyes, dull our ears. The voice of God fades until it is imperceptible. His wisdom, His inspiration, it fades. We become dead and cold, loosing our path, wasting our days wandering without a map.

How sad! —- repent!

True repentance restores our place with God, softens our heart, and opens our eyes. Only repentance can do that. Sin cannot be allowed to persist, even if hidden! It must be removed through repentance and the blood of Jesus. That is how we hear from heaven. That is how we find peace.

Our human nature says “work harder” when we struggle. When we don’t hear from heaven, we try this approach or that, work harder at study or reading or listening. None of that works! The problem is simply sin. Sin blinds us, and only repentance removes sin. When the doors of heaven are closed, when our prayers bring no peace, when scripture looses its life, the first thing to do is look for unrepentant sin! Ask God to reveal anything inside you that hinders His voice. Ask Him to clean your heart of all greed, selfishness, pride, whatever it may be.

In old Israel the priest had to go through great lengths to become clean enough to approach the throne of God. Holiness requires holiness! We are no different, we must be clean to approach the throne of God. If you have harmed another, first go and repent! Ask for forgiveness! Then and only then can you approach a holy God.

We often struggle to hear Gods voice due to hidden quiet sins. Sins of attitude, deed, or lack of trust. Forgiveness through repentance sets things right so that we can walk boldly to the very throne of a Holy God. The blood of Jesus covers every sin, once we repent.

When we need a word from heaven, hearing starts with repentance.
